Anniversary Eleven years ago today Adorned in white I walked the aisle To meet the man who’d save my life I promised to become his wife The day was filled with memories I’ll treasure for eternity Though bittersweet as I recall The promise made the night before And then that day when time came To dance the night away The man who ruled my life till then Showed his ass once more A special dance for dad and bride He disappeared nowhere to find For once the world could see . . . Then step-dad came and offered to Twirl me round the floor My heart did sing for finally I knew that I was free Eleven years have come and gone The journey has been so long As we’ve fought through memories Of a lifetime before two were one The promise made the night before Has intervened in life today But I’ll be damned if they’ll win As I know I’m free again And so today we’ll dance our life Remembering when we became more Than the past, husband and wife |

Mandie, as usual with your pieces there is an intriguing story lurking far behind the verse. It is maddening at times.
The association of your father, to the disassociation is a powerful mix of truth and emotion. That your step father saved the day tells volumes about where you have come and come to.
The odd point of your piece is that although your love, that of your husband, is the theme, it is not the focal point. All I was left with is the other two men in your life. I was left with the hope that the third remains potent enough for the needs of the woman.
A twisting tale, with a telling ending.
