Why?

if someone asked me why I write, what would I say? I never plan  anything, and if I make a statement, its spontaneous, and often  contrary to any statement  I would plan to make.  I do not write because I believe, or  want to convince the world. I do not write because I want to impress a skirt, or because  I love, or hate,  or anything else.  I write because, well,  well, well, crabs moving backwards can make time  retrogress, and  nutshells are kingdoms of an  infinite  space.  and there’s  something  in the fact that the  same  letters spell  “gods”  and  “dogs.” even God would get a kick  out of   that.

Mark, Very nice! I think many poets can identify with this reply to Why? The ending brought a smile to my face. I'm sure God would get a kick out of it too! Keep writing! :) Ash

Great verse, with enough to make me reread it many times. Truth is like that. As for God's sense of humor, even in the darker indices of this civilization he must have taken pause at the carnival like motif of some the most tragic circumstances. I imagine he enjoys the cartoons in “the lighter side”. Why I write? I'd like to say I am as analytical as you (and I probably could be if I took the time, I think), but it is because I must and that is all. I always hope that someone finds it worth a damn; but then if not- I'd still write, so is that true?

Powerful - I adore it. 2nd and 3rd verses stand out - and you write because God gave you the thoughts, the talent to put words together as such to please a reader - and do it well. Enjoyed the repetitive "Well, well, well, it just adds a touch of something much different which completes this in an unusual way. Will always say you were born a writer, and gave much thought while reading this poem - a natural more casual style that brings the reader in and leaves this reader properly entertained. blessings, Deni
