The Color of Joy

I gaze out over your galloping waves, my feet, cooled in the white sand. Above me, clouds mound into patterns splashing the sky with random images that make me see water colors and how we use our hands to produce those puffy designs on artist's paper so like that panoramic canvas that we call sky. I have spread a blanket and my love is there laying back, watching a kite fly overhead. The kite is flying my color, only by accident, of course, but still it blends action and light to my artistic eye. I decide to lie down also, the afternoon is waning and my color and I are in the same mood. I smile, knowing the tide will reach our feet and I can't wait.

Additional Notes:
Previously published on the Allpoetry website. This poem was for a contest in which you had to write about and show a specific color without naming the color at all. Since blue is mine and my husband's favorite color, I used blue as my poem color. The word blue is not in the poem which is as it should be.

You definitely achieved all specifics with this wonderful light poem - Very airy and makes me want to jump in and soak up some sun - read a book - or just breathe in the wonderful atmosphere - Very nicely written - my only opinion would be to X out some of the "and"s you've added but none the less it - doesn't take away the feel of this piece and the imagery made with your words - blessings, Deni

I could almost feel the surf while watching the kite. The mark of any great poem is to take the reader with you and you did this in spades. S7 was my fav among all the wonderful stanzas that you create in this work

Wanda, Such an idyllic scene. The combination of two of my favorite things, the ocean, and the sky (including cloud formations). I understand the necessity of the soul, that of the ocean as paramour, and the sky the willing confidant, moon, stars- the expanse. To share it with another requires a concurrence beyond the superficial, on into the sublime. The piece makes me feel good and draws me to compose, in like ilk, the metaphor that is the substantial. Well done.
