My Dear Nephew

I have memories of you of long ago The day I became your 'Uncle Boe'. You were tiny, with a smile on your face Just the beginning of life's great race. We weren't real close as time began I know you're now a great young man. I look back at days, we've put behind Looking at you, puts me in mind. You are much like me, so it seems Having in life a big book of dreams. We've not had time to fulfill our lives With love on which our hearts do thrive. You're so strong, with love in your heart   A very wise man, bad habits didn't start. You don't smoke or drink, but keep a smile Happiness we can share will be worth while. It seems as though you belong to me We're much alike as others can see. I am real short and you are too  It's part of our lives, but that'll do. You bought your first car from me A cadillac made you happy as can be. Today you drive a Ford Explorer as I do Great minds think alike, as in 'me and you'. We didn't have a chance to gather in fun Both too busy, from dawn to setting sun. It isn't too late to start over anew I want to take time, to be an uncle to you. We both have a side line, that's cutting hair Holding two jobs doesn't really seem fair. I am so proud you graduated from college I'd like you to share some of your knowledge. Shronda, your sister, whom you're close to, Is very proud to have a brother like you. I someday hope we can become good friends We can share a kind of love that never ends. I want you to know if you ever need me Give me a call, you know where I'll be. Don't be a stranger, when you're in need You're a special part of this family indeed. I know it's hard, to understand today's life Wondering why we go through such strife. I say prayers for you so let God's will be done Your Angels are waiting with God's Holy Son. I want you to know what you mean to me A very dear nephew, you're great as can be. I send all my loving thoughts to you God loves you and he'll take care of you too. With love to you from your 'Uncle Boe' The best loved  'Poopey' I'll ever know. Keep your chin up and a smile on your face God will take you to His Happy Place.

Additional Notes:
My friend, (Tim) has a twenty five year old nephew who recently found he has stomach cancer and has been told he may live from 6 months to a year. Tim wasn't real close to the young guy but would like to become closer. He asked me to write a poem, to his nephew from him, saying a few things he hasn't been able to say. They were not in a situation where they could be real close. He loved him just the same. Tim had written down a few facts about the two of them. He asked if I could write about them. I replied, if I can, I will. I need to really think hard about this. I do not know the young man, nor have I been introduced to him. Tim wanted me to use the grammar as he would use. I have used some which is incorrect, by choice. This poem came from bits and pieces of info reported to me by Tim, and from the heart as I might feel, in such a case. Tim really liked it and hopefully so will his nephew.
