The Murchison Floods

THE MURCHISON FLOOD The floods in the North of our fair State, leave destruction and havoc around. The Ashburton’s running a banker, Eighteen metres in depth, it was found. The Stations and stock are in danger, There never has been such a sight. Since Cyclone Bobby came roaring, And flooded the country one night. The sheds and the windmills have vanished, The fuel tanks and fences are gone. No wonder the owners are worried, They may not have the heart to go on. It’s tough stuff these families are made of, Their bravery leaves everyone proud, How they cope in the face of disaster, But, they are only one face in the crowd. The Ashburton bridges and structures, Have weakened with force from the floods. The verges and roads are all damaged, They are covered all over with sludge There’s two thousand cattle gone missing, From one station, up there alone. But everyone, has their own story, And there is no one out there on their own. Up there in the Murchison country, There are people and stock, still at risk. As the Ashburton river keeps flowing, We hope there is no one they’ve missed. They are lifting each family to safety, Together with children and pets. It’s hard living up in that country, But it's, a lifestyle that no one regrets.

Additional Notes:
The Murchison is cattle country in North western Australia The Ashburton is a very well known river up in that part of the state Running a banker means that it is well and truly flooding You may need to scroll down
