DAD

The past is right behind me and catching up quickly                      Threatening to unravel the dreams only I've seen                      Stretching and pushing, making the mold fit me                      Wearing me out, making me scream                      Too many men in my life have ruined me                      Giving me scares and bruises to bare                      Too many "issues" for me to deal with                      Life has been so unfair                      Don't ask me what I want, because I don't know                      Maybe you can show me what is like to care                      Like a blister that keeps getting broken                      A chalice has formed to protect my soul                      Make the darkness break from my body                      Point me toward the lighted way                      The chains are heavy but I keep pressing forward                      Praying that I'll find you some how, some day
