The Making of Heroes

There's a hum of casualty An opportunity of mind Would anyone who swims at all Not save a drowning child? Who would refrain from throwing Water on a burning bed? Disclosure intersects Mad time provides intent The second hand, fortuitous, Advances sudden flight Some noble acts are born in Circumstances sight Morning is offered to us filtered and complete Some cross the street from homelessness, Wait like starlings, mouths unhinged   For portions of thick meat  But if the shutter flickers and the ball lands  In the street and then we see the child dash out, We slide the nearest banister to hero the event Who would not chance to act in cause so imminent? Smaller, kinder acts remain unheralded and soft Recall…for some still innocent of headlines and despair A lifetime spent in joy of Spreading balm before a fall
