A Church of Another Faith

I walked into the darkness Of a church I’d been before. Where the dark dust of death Had but risen from the floor. And I stared into forever,  Blinking out the past While the shadows of the corners Forshadowed what would last. Love was in my heart right then, As it had been for everyday. Until a bullet fired one year ago Finally struck its prey. Perfection had a mate That struck me down to size A quick blonde stroke of death That robbed me of my prize. Up until that fateful moment My mind was at a rest I was certain of a goal That time could not arrest. She was the sun when it was cold And a breeze over hot sand. She was my everthing, and my nothing: The air in the palm of my hand. The fist of my mind was clenched  At my life’s blonde contrast. Dark in his corner, yes, But blinking he surpassed. Death walked into my church. And took what I did not possess. Now, left with love, and love and air, I share with lonliness.
