WIND STORM

I listen intently to the wind As it winds, whistles, and weaves Down the darkened street. Forcefully it grabs hold of the immovable walls In a thundering protest, Burrowing deep into the crevices Left by years of settling. I imagine the path it would take If it were to sail through my soul With the same utter abandon. The trunks of my past Would fight a losing battle  To keep the flittering leaves From falling to their death. One by one, each leaf would fall Swaying in the turbulent air, Flipping and turning, Exposing the fragment of emotion Left alive on its fragile membrane. The old hurt and pain Would be swept up in a dust cloud hurricane As haunting phrases are left to settle In a strange new pattern. The words heard and the words unspoken Mixed together in a formulated idea Of how I now remember it happening.
