Impasse

I used to be at peace But now pain is all I feel Your words cut like a knife The wounds-too deep to heal I once thought that you loved me Too much to say such things But now I know I was foolish And that realization stings I could never turn the tables My nature is not that cruel So I sit in silence wondering Why I continue to play the fool How can you act as if nothing's wrong And expect me to do the same? My heart is heavy with emptiness And I've only myself to blame For being so ready to love again When hate is all that I've known For getting back up on the horse again When I knew that I'd only be thrown Now what of this broken heart of mine Does it dare to dream again? Or should it just strike out on it's own Without a foe or a friend?
