Cheshire Cat Grins They have strange minds, these children of mine. It seems everything should begin With giggles, tee-hee's, ho ho's and ha ha's And a cheshire cat sort of grin. It starts rather simply, excels to a pitch Just below what the human can bear. Then propels to the height of it's summit At the time that I reach for my hair. As I franticly pull out each strand root by root, The decible level will peak. Then the briefest of pauses occurs at this point For the air that their empty lungs seek. Their breath now revived, their vocal cords stretch To a mind bending, heart stopping shriek! Then begins the slow, but not steady decent As hysterical laughter retreats. Just when I think they are human again, When I dare to believe I've survived, Along comes my child with a Cheshire Cat Grin And I look for a place I can hide. |
