A Voice In My Soul

It was not a place to be a friend; Hard and cold you do not care. Living becomes the only fight; A friend I could not bear. Constant fear, seconds passed- You did not have time to cry. It was but an instant George, it was then your time to die. The picture lives forever more placed within my soul. Mother, father, little child; Your plea... I will forever know. Sorrow briefly in my mind; Came a mist you cannot see. You remained in my heart- Your name was lost to me. The last words echo in my soul, a whisper of my plight. Spoken thoughts clinging to life haunt me in the night. Love is an eternal reflection time cannot erase. A message from her father's heart- Lost years it will replace. Somewhere is your child, a lady of her own. An emptyness deep within her heart; A need for your words to be sown. Then she will hear your thoughts- A tender melody from above. As you tell her George one last time; Of the warmth of her father's love.

Additional Notes:
The submission exceeded the space. I can't see the first (now last) stanza so I hope it is there! An old war story.
