Sweet 'Gram'

Sweet grandmother who seems to be unlike any relative I remember Your wings have been clipped by the loss of any true semblance of time and thought Only smoky innuendos of reality swirl through the cracks of your mind, like mist Left splintered by years- a shipwreck upon jagged rocks, when the subtle gray turned ebony And yet, your heart jumps up and down within your eyes from time to time Like focaccia bread, warm and steaming in my hand, that I blow upon as if to fan the flame and keep you here for just a little while longer But, in my greed I find that I have gobbled down your fleeting flash And while you are still here with me, the door has closed- and you are gone
