Loneliness Returns

A door closes behind a darkened room, By night stand leans a guitar out of tune. A book never read Lies closed on the bed As shadows unveil a rising moon. A clock ticks off the moments alone, A number not dialed lies by the phone. A time to reflect, As thoughts collect, Sombre as words on a graveyard stone. The days are short and priests are fasting, The nights are long but never lasting. In preachers confide, Pray for God's side, The reaper of death will soon come asking. A winter's day lost, it's cold and snowing, The wailing sounds of north winds blowing. Voices are not heard, Stillness....not a word, When the rivers freeze, they stop flowing. The ice thickens, the snowfall will stay, As morning light breaks over the bay. Your last temptation, Leaves no sensation, And loneliness returns for one more day.
