Memories of the Day

When the evening breeze is haunted   By the memories of the day   And the water sounds are muted,   As I walk along the bay.   When the night is quickly falling   And the stars begin to show,   There is comfort in surroundings   I appreciate and know.   Yet I'm thinking of tomorrow   And the years that stretch ahead.   I'm wondering what they'll to bring me   And directions I'll be led.   Then my thoughts go turning backward,   To the years I've spent with you.   How I hope we'll be together,   When the future comes in view   And quite suddenly I'm longing   For the sight of your dear face   And the darkness speeds my footsteps,   As I hurry to our place.   Where the firelight is cheerful.   Cabin's cozy as can be   And I feel a great crescendo,   When you turn and smile at me!
