Final Day

There’s a strange sense in the air The birds all taking care Dogs stay off the street Hide from oppressive heat Comes the close and steamy night Wilting all within sight Looming ever near Remarkably unclear Doubts and questions all around Thoughts of fear abound Presence from the air Sent by Those still there Waking fully at a noise Sounds like running toys Fleeing in the night A devil in the light Stories flood the evening news Some saying it’s no use Anger blocks the way Awaits a final day Order starts to crack and fail Dissension and betrayal Invasion from some Other Sister against brother Message sent through space at dawn Received before They’re gone Written brief, yet still queer It said, “No conqueror needed here.” As I dreamed, my horror grew Thank God it wasn’t real Still, my sleep tonight is through Such terrible things couldn’t happen Yet I know, some dreams come true.

Additional Notes:
This is a fantasy with a (from my point of view) tongue-in-cheek scenario. The underlying social comment isn't either. I look forward to your reactions. The capitalizations are deliberate to individualize and separate the group mentioned.
