Olympic Games - Sydney, Australia 2000. We welcome all the world, to the Opening Ceremony Sydney hosts the Olympic Games, the first this century "Aussies" smile and say "Gidday", making friends with young and old Come and see our athletes, proudly wearing "green and gold" From right accross our country - north, south, east and west They will try their hardest, to perform their "personal best" We are the window of the world, so take this opportunity To travel to our distant shores, share in our warmth and harmony Kangaroos and Emu abound on our deserts, and our plains Koalas sleep high, amidst tall gums, that are washed by summer rains Crocodiles and Platypus, are there for all to see Share with us these special days of peace and tranquility Our national airline Qantas, will fly you safely to our shore We trust that you'll enjoy your stay, and venture back some more Throw a prawn on the "barbie", bake "damper", brew "billy tea" Our knives, not quite so big as those, of "Crocodile Dundee" Our national anthem, tells of a land "with beauty rich and rare" So when you leave, wave "hoo roo" and sing "Advance Australia Fair" |
Additional Notes:
I have added quite a lot of "Aussie Slang" to bring the true feeling of what the Olympics mean to us here, and the pride that we all share in this event that is happening in our country for the next two weeks that we are sharing with the rest of the world. Please understand that these words arereally true Australianisms.
