Fear

The element of fear...    gripping and chilling like a mid-winter wind Senses heightened and sharpened...    like the edges of finely honed blades Sweat beading and bursting in a clammy intensity    with the pulse pounding in primitive beats Time suspended in the shallowness of each rapid breath    until the fear dissipates...like a mysterious vapor And the element is gone.
