Down and Out

I've battled the mean streets of discontent I've fought wars against addiction and solitude With others, I've shared all the merriment That life can offer. Down and out, this dead end road Flows into the long and winding stream of unconscious living and human tragedy, And I, a social outcast, do my very best To free my soul from all traces of ignorance and lethargy combined I've bathed myself in inner glory and hedonism I've battled my neighbours for their share With myself, I've come to the very end That life can offer Down and out, this dead end road Empties its contents onto the main strip And frees itself of all urban tension and vanity combined And I, the social outcast, do my very best To be myself, a social outcast, as well defined By the circumstances that surround me And my every endeavor, past and present - then and now. by James Papastamos
