Grandma's Kitchen

With one door in and one door out, Grandma's kitchen was small and square;  Not much room to move about, But plenty for the love that was there! Refrigerator, stove, chairs and sink, Table and cabinet of dishes --- They took up most of the space, I think, But left room for childhood wishes! On summer days, the kitchen was hot And flies buzzed outside the screens. But Grandma was always cooking lots Of yummy and scrumptious things! I remember hot biscuits and 'lasses Spread with butter fresh from the churn. And the grownups enjoyed great big glasses Of buttermilk that we kids would spurn! In winter the wind shrieked outside While we gobbled beans and cornbread. Topping that off with fried apple pies, Grandma made sure we weren't underfed! I know she must have gotten tired of us Running through her kitchen. And sometimes she did scold and fuss, But mostly she'd just grin! Grandma's kitchen is quiet now, The stove and table are bare... But in my heart I know somehow Grandma's spirit's still there!
