Wondering, Wandering Self-pitying pilgrims we are Wearied, counting disappointments Forever pained with our own follies And our children mirroring us. Indelibly broken creatures we are Mouthing forgotten words Never learning the names of galaxies As we stare at distant stars. Unsatisfied appetites we feed On temporary desires at any price Racing, fighting, cheating to achieve What is never enough. Thinking, rational beings we are Caught beneath the veil of Isis Floating in our puzzling vacuum Eyes closed, damning our blindness. |
Additional Notes:
Veil of Isis: 1)from mythology: to lift the veil of Isis is to pierce
the heart of a great mystery. 2) Milton places the goddess Isis among the
fallen angels. I believe either reference works.
