The Keeper

when nighttime comes  you'll find her  in a bed of wakefulness tending her forget-me-nots; doing bed checks  for breathing, comfort intermittently,  all night long. This is her desire to keep charge  over those she loves; to spend countless hours doing what others  consider mundane. Don't think her unwearied  from lack of sleep but, who else will guard,   who else will hold the midnight hour?  This vigil that is unnecessary  except  for that one,  single time when it is needed? Who will let go their slumber  to do the checking? who would ever check  on her in the middle of the night? . or, does she need checking? Perhaps God protects  those who keep the nightly vigil allowing them the luxury  of not needing to be checked. God. . . I hope so. . .
