In Your Absence

In your absence, I am left little by which to remember, as though I’m meant to forget your face, deceptively worn in places, on bodies  that could never be. Somewhere along the road, divided, we got lost in details or monotony, and little was left by which to remember you and me or how or why canyons formed the branches of our family tree. Echoes of security only responded in kind to our needs, but somehow, they too got lost absorbed in life, in loss. We made do and walked our paths in search of unity. Today, I was looking again for you unconsciously, among strange crowds, a familiar face I know, though seldom find save in mistaken identity, to which my heart in love sends greeting, but gathers no reply.
