Storm at Sea The captain bade the bos'n to appear upon the deck as the waves provokely pounded to the 'lee'. His ship though measured half one mile, seemed no more than a speck bobbing futilely upon the endless sea. A sailor in the crowsnest tumbled from his lofty site and in horror hit the angry sea below but before he hit the water, he beheld a shining light then the Grasp of Life abruptly let him go. "batten ye the hatches..quickly lower the mainsail" were the orders barked out through the per'lous night. "i'll be damned", said the captain, "if i'll let a blighted gale sink the Titan, without putting up a fight". Then as if to meet his challenge, there arose a mighty swell sweeping two more helpless men o'er Titan's rail. with fists clenched to the heavens cried he, "damn thine eyes to Hell" but his curse was lost within the roaring gale. To the helmswheel ran our captain as the seaspray burned his eyes so he placed before his face a trembling hand then with eyesight turning upward to the dark foreboding skies he most fervently began to pray for land. Yae he called out to the heavens asking for some aid divine but alas there was no answer to his prayer. saw he no relief forth-coming from the surging swirling brine so he cursed a god who didn't seem to care. "Am I seeking out a timid god, indeed this must be so" said the captain heaving chest in mournful sigh "needs accept my final refuge waiting twenty leagues below, for a captain, a most fitting place to die". But as luck would have it suddenly the dark clouds all dispersed next the wind bowed down to but a gentle breeze then the captain felt most fearful of the god that he had cursed so he dropped down on his wind-burned battered knees. "forgive a doubtful man, and i'll not make the same mistake, but I thought that all was lost in my despair." "I swear oh God and promise, you i'll never more forsake" as he bowed his head and spoke a humble prayer. But the god he sought was not one to be taken ever light as he found out to his sorrow and dismay for you see the captain stirred the vengeful deity's great might and with might HE'd surely have the FINAL say !! Then the captain watched in horror, transfixed there..afraid to stir while a thunderbolt came swiftly to its mark "Feel the fiery consequences of my wrath that you incur" roared the god who's bolt had found the captain's heart. |
