Empty Nester

The puzzling over means and ends The flipping back and forth between The need to seem to heed her friends While wants go undiscussed, unseen To dance, to smile, defy time's rush While still afraid she'll not awake And sad to see her ckeek's lost blush A thirst for youth she cannot slake Weighs each against the status quo And doing so is felled by doubt She must not stay she cannot go Her home's door opens in not out     And I bestride her threshold pause     And ask if I'm effect or cause
