Who Am I?

I am with you this morning, watching you sleep peacefully undisturbed by your delicious dreams. I caress the blonde streaks in your hair and kiss your copper skin with only magnificent morning light between us. You warm, under the sheet, to my experienced touch and I notice a smile cross your waking lips. As I surround you, I feel myself rising to the occasion; a brutal heat ready to take you to a paradise light years from here. If I was allowed to wish, it would be to hold you this evening, but my wishes are seldom realized and I have an age-old engagement to visit another many miles from your dark bedroom. You are one in a list of many, not by choice, but by duty. I am yours daily, this I promise. I cannot help it that by night you turn away from me and I, needs unmet, am forced to seek refuge with others. Do not turn your jealous tongue upon me as I leave by twilight. The moon and stars will be your lovers once again, assuming my place in your bed. And I, the Sun, will return at dawn.
