cement sandals

night falls uneasily, sunlight sinking slowly like sand unsettled. my vision clouds momentarily before the hands of others let me fall. imagine sea and moonlight, danger lurking in murky waters, steadily sinking, surrounded by the eerie silence of the deep. swirling attempts at swimming, struggling, successful as a stone. reality in slow motion, like in dreams of mortal danger. hitting pitch-black bottom, equilibrium achieved with a final exhale. there are no flashbacks of memory or reflections on this papier-mache existence. the water lifts away all layers. nothing matters but this moment: standing in the sea, swaying gently, i breathe water, and let the darkness in. agv 09-

Additional Notes:
spellcheck on microsoft word assures me papier-mache is spelled correctly, though in this format it is sans an accent mark.
