Soundproof

Remember when Nights were quiet and We watched sunsets hush the city? We were alone then No sounds or strangers No matter If stars fell or Moons faded We made our own moonlight and We didn't need stars Except for occassional wishes Somewhere, beyond the door People talked There were footsteps in the hall Phone calls, too I didn't hear a sound Just the softness of your lips Tracing my ear A plane flew by or Was it a dove? I couldn't tell I heard only you  Moving warmly through my time I didn't think anything then Of the sound your eyes made As they looked past my shoulder Just recently I began hearing things Like telephones and streetcars Softly at first but Louder with every far-away glance Last night My ears were shattered When the door clicked shut Behind you
