Devotion

I'm doing very well, I say,   To those who ask and often they   Will pat my shoulder, hold my hand   And tell me that they understand.   That always makes me want to smile.   It does distract me for awhile,   But all the time, the shadows wait,   Along with sorrow, at my gate.   I've lived with them so long that they   Are like old friends who've come to stay   And they don't ask that much of me,   But just that I tend constantly,   The candle burning at your shrine.   You lost your life;  I give you mine!
