"A Penned Gift "

Life's winds of change have taken their toll on our relationship... Unresolved questions, responsibilities,  life's endless schedule of challenges. My heart reaches for the child I knew. Asking when you changed, I realized we both changed...a little each day. Seeing 'my little boy' behind a veneer  of adulthood, I wait patiently... remembering smiles and tears,   missing hugs that said 'I need you.' Surely, you know you're important to me, more than ever, I need your love. I write my words...a gift for you, son.  Hoping to slow your heart for a moment on this thirtieth birthday, I ask... As you hug Matt tonight, notice changes,  cherish little moments, so quickly gone. Please never, ever forget...  I've given you the best of me, not perfect...but enduring love. Wishing for renewed relationship, far from the hurts of the past, I pen this gift...a mother's love filled with fresh hope that lasts.

Additional Notes:
My oldest son will be 30 years old on Dec 1; and I wrote this as a gift for him on this milestone of his adulthood. His only son, Matt is 6 yrs old; and is referred to in the poem. I'm sharing this because I'm sure there are many parents who will relate to my sentiments. Cry a tear or two and remember....
