COMMON PRIORITIES

By callling them minorities, We're just abusing our priorities. We all just act so pious. We all just act with bias. We think that we are better, wouldn't you say? This is racist kind of thinking. Our society's all wet and sinking. To survive, there has to be a better way. What I think I hear is fear, And to me it's very clear. Every group must think it's them that is the best. Are they frightened that we'll know? Are they scared that they won't grow? Are they worried that they'll be like all the rest? Is the majority all white? Does the majority have insight? I think not, for if they did, then they would see. They are the majority just today, And things may change, as to who holds sway. Tnen the majority may be someone else - who is not thee. Aren't Serbs and Bosnians white, Chechnians too? How bout Catholics, how bout the Irish, and the Jew? As minorities, they all could not fight back. Thus majorities could abuse without attack. So minority's a word that people use. Someone has to be the cause of their shortcomings, their sad lives. And they need to build their egos and abuse. If they didn't have minorities, would they then abuse their wives? So tell me who's at fault for all this baiting? It's the press, the politicians, and small minds. There is no shortage of frustration and of hating. And who we hate just keeps on changing with the times. It seems to me that we encourage all this hate. It seems to me it's time to stop this bias game. For by separating human beings by their fate, We ignore the fact that we are all the same. Suppose a threat from outer space was somehow real? We'd get together, act in force, to save the earth. We'd act as one against this threat, and then we'd feel, That everyone of us was needed, everyone of us had worth. No longer would we act so pious. No longer would we act with bias. For we suddenly had someone else to hate. We'd give up our racist thinking. We'd work in concert, without even blinking. Our commonality would be our strength, would be our fate. There would no longer be minorities. Only humanity, with oommon priorities.

Additional Notes:
My poetry can be classified in three ways: 1. "personal" experiences 2. to help "mankind" 3. just for fun The above is meant to serve mankind, to make the world a better place. Until I discovered the Poetic Link, I simply kept these "mankind" poems in a drawer. I hope this helps! Jay D. Savitz E-mail: savitz1@home.com
