War----War----Nuclear War

I cannot conceive it I cannot believe it These debatable issues of war On a scale of one, two, three Just how bad can it be To guess how many millions are no more Do we all die fast? Does the sickness really last? There's still two billion people, maybe more Is there food enough to eat? Do we kill friends for their meat? Will radiation dissipate in five years, or only four We all are just so sure We're all hoping for a cure We pray that only half the people die That it just will not be us Who simply turns to dust That among the ones who die, there is no "I" We think it's not so bad And we think we've all been had And there's nothing you can do, not even try BUT WAIT!  We could be wrong Perhaps we'll form a throng No longer will we let this planet vie We'll know this can't be right We'll shout, we'll plead, we'll write Until the world chooses not to die So how bad is not the issue A debate is not called for For resolve, that's what we wish you We must "prevent" this war HALF A HORROR STILL RETAINS THE HALF OF HORROR THAT REMAINS So join us all together and we'll see There's a hope that we'll be sane That we'll truly ease the pain Be alive, and be creative, and set free

Additional Notes:
In the 1960's, there was much anxiety about the danger and threat of nuclear war. I know that this is not a timely poem in the world of today, but at that time, "IMBECILES" WERE ACTUALLY ARGUING, ON TV, ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT "ALL" OR "SOME" WILL SURVIVE AN ALL OUT NUCLEAR WAR BETWEEN RUSSIA AND THE USA. THIS IS WHAT PROMPTED THIS POEM! Some of my poems, I call "mankind" poems; wherein I feel the anxiety of so many, and I cannot help but to express myself on that topic. I have never had an audience for my work, thus this poem has lain in a drawer for about 30 + years . Thank you, Poetic Link, for providing an outlet for my thoughts, at last.
