The Reflection of Truth

I watched you as you slept last night Your face so pure, As though touched by the grace of God The weary lines around your eyes Erased by His loving hand You began to stir  The wince of your sorrow returned  If I could  I would reach into your mind And yank free the nightmare That is stalking your serenity And throw it cascading over the cliff To drown in the tears  You have wept from its existence   I too, have dreams  During my wake, and my sleep You are there,  With the beautiful profile I have memorized Your smile beckoning me To forget the image I now behold And cling tightly to your peace of yesterday   Last night I heard your sighs While your breathing increased I kept tempo to it with my heartbeat The rhythm being similar, Though the melody had changed Once we played a grand duet Now the masterpiece faces ridicule  While it is played over and over Till there is no time or energy left For encores  I see you in front of me tonight My fingers ache with the yearning To run through your jungle Of lines and dark shadows Seeking the mirror of your image And smuggle it back into the light. It is here, now. In my eyes Look closely, dear That is your true reflection That is you  .
