I Am Here For You I was a child when I first saw you The sparkle in your eyes and your bright giggle drifted into my world, innocently And bonded with my young life's desire To find the ideal best friend We soon became inseparable Never leaving the other, In thought or in heart, My secrets became yours As yours did mine Our days were filled with delight And our friendship established its foundation When my childhood tragedies took their toll You were there, by my side Taking my hand and looking at me And you would say to me, gently "Your eyes are closed, but I know your heart sees me" Hearing those words beckoned my eyes to open To look into the loving light of your friendship. Where there was no room For storm clouds to gather I look at you now and know That if you had not been there for me Through all of my hard times My eyes would still be closed, And my heart may never have opened I look at you now and I need to know Where the storm is coming from that shadows your brow And wipes the sparkle from your eyes Making me watch you slowly disappear Into the thick fog surrounding it I look at you now, and I need you to know That my eyes are wide open Along with my heart Please allow me to help chase away the clouds So that I can see my best friend again. |
