Two Baguettes and a Bottle of Red Wine

He brought a wedge of brie, two baguettes and a bottle of red wine, a sweet, fruity wine. They were to meet at noon Then, to the park for lunch on the grass. "Sanctus, sanctus," he would sing in his silly, disarming way. Then he would offer bread, wine and cheese, mystically. She would understand. As he waited, he watched couples coming and going, (not quite together) singles sauntering in search, (not at all together) a thought blossomed. What if she read his body language? What if she sensed the edge? What if she knew romanticism and brie was draining him? What if she guessed at his ambivalence? She's late. What if she's left him?!
