Great Expectations

I saw a beautiful unicorn, with a tear in her eye,  a saddle on her back, her horn sawed off. I saw a ravenous wolf, beaten to civility, a collar 'round his neck, led on a chain through city streets. I saw a cunning rodent, beside a dish full of food, lethargic and overweight, born to be caged entertainment. I saw a potential hero, ignorant of the real world, exposed to harsh realities, lessened to a bitter criminal.
