By and By Now as the flame from my life’s candle, flickers and grows dim. My thoughts often travel back, back to when I was young again. I see the events of my life, clearly as I travel back, to the days of old when I was young, foolish and bold. I see me… On the school yard of that cold day in October of Thirty Nine. I was only six and the masks of Halloween scared me time after time. On the Fair grounds in Nineteen Forty five when they announced the wars end. We all yelled, screamed and danced with glee, for now life would return to normal, You see. On the ball diamond in Nineteen Forty Nine I was striking them out one at time. On the train in Nineteen Fifty to a far off place called Texas, where I trained to be an Airman and fulfill my young heart's dream. On to a ship that took me, across the deep blue sea to a far off place called France. Where, I meet my lovely wife, and two beautiful children that followed in the years to be. On to the white sands of Northern Florida. Four years, I will remember fondly near the sea. On to California for a year in the high desert sun, what a great run. On to a large air ship, that flew me to a place of war, there I lost my youth, and more than I wish to bare. Back to beautiful Colorado, high in the mountain air. On to the days of playing with my Grandson, at the autumn fair. On to infinity, I will soon march but, be it know my life has been marked by family and friends. And by men, who knew who they were and why they were there. So keep the banners waving high and forget me not, untill time catchs up with us by and by. Then maybe I'll see you again and we can all walk togather, on God's highway in the sky. |
