Vigil Into Night

The cold amber vermilion and dusty red twilight slips below the brink of a high canyon wall. Far off to my left, a meteor crashed into the plateau eons ago making a gash in the bald desert. I wait--- huddled tired as that ancient rock, teetering, impassive to be blown to the bottom a mile down. I hope to achieve its grand, unending sleep.
