Winter Solstice Sonnet

Of late I've pondered snowflake and white field, The fragile crystal ice that clings to eaves, The winter wind that never rustles leaves, The light at end of day that's been repealed, The Aztec light that through some slit of stone Fell on the mark that ever marked time's throne, The Stonehenge light that fell on waiting eyes Of solemn priests and proved their alibis. It's quiet now, a time to rest and dream The dream of Spring, the dream that once again The earth will turn and we can say "amen... Our God is good; is there, and still supreme."  For eons now we've marked this day with show, Because we dream; we hope.  We never know.

Additional Notes:
Ahhhhhhhhh! That's my sigh of relief for the return of my muse! I've been experiencing one of those poetic slumps and this sonnet just happened an hour ago and was written in about 40 minutes. I love it when that happens!
