Devil Eyes

Old woman on the back deck in summer as late as your mind, with the sun falling upon alabaster flesh, warming up those buried and forgotten bones  in crippled hands. Red chair reflecting in your glasses giving you those devil eyes that, when mingled with the nonsensical chatter flowing from your semi-toothless mouth, sends goose bumps skittering up my arms. A much too blatant intrusion of the demon holding you hostage, trampling through your mind, irreverently tearing off pieces and throwing them at my face, whereupon landing, they turn into tears. I have to turn away as cruel grief lunges at me and my facade staggers under the weight of your sterling silver heart now robbed of your essence, and heavily tarnished. In my dreams I seem to polish it so constantly until it shimmers  for the fleetest of moments- Again, as always, I see his scarlet-eyed reflection staring back at me relentlessly, and with one vulgar rotting out breath the surface clouds up once more, like soot. I wipe away the wet from my cheeks remembering his taunting laughter, and although the air is buzzing with warm, I shudder.
