The Boy Next Door

I know, because the cat just came in looking ravaged and mean, that it is raining and the soft patter was not you tapping against the window, not your ten year old face pressed flat against the  cold glass, in a mask of nonsense,     in fact, not you at all. You have grown into topcoats and suits you have learned what umbrellas are for when you fly, you do it on airplanes and the rain is an inconvenience Something distracting and wrong.    There is a time capsule in the arbor. We planted it for the millennium, but you didn't remember to come. Instead, you open supermarkets and gyms. In my garden, the ground will remain covered  until he next millennium or when someone builds a foundation  for a new dream whichever comes first.
