Palm Springs Winter

Heat bakes the soul, drives desert dwellers crawling from spa to spa  in California winterwarmth Flocks fly down from northern storms to warm themselves in saunas filled with gossip and dead skin,  while water spouts revive nerves deadened by mechanic lives Bald bankers with gold chains bind girl-children to their arms lightly, with emerald ropes, lure them in with bulging wallets Look!  I have youth enough to please this beauty firm flesh is clinging on to mine! Admire me! Women, self defined as widows and ex-wives, with lizard eyes lie to and with each other poolside, basking on the rocky deck, their paste-on claws ready to dig for diamond residue having invested in their men more than a man can give. They gather to prowl the malls scavenging potions of grace. The character from their face long scalpel shaved, they hunt for aloes paint smiles on their lips perfume their pain. The masquerade proceeds until mascara runs down rigid masks of face, black tears exposing the charade.
