Scales of Life

Days have past and were left behind, Deeds were done and receipts were signed. You reflect on times long since past, Not quite a breath but one quick gasp. With faded memory listing things you've done; Subtracting bad from good to reach the sum. Has your life been all that you knew it should? Have you done right, made right, all that you could? A seemingly senseless thing to measure one's worth, It relentlessly pursues you, this burdening curse. When all deeds are summed and all the final tallies made, Will your memory live on or will it gradually fade? Have you made a difference in your short time? Have you lived in others lives, have you touched their minds? The answers to these questions will determine your life's worth, From the time of your death back to the moment of birth.
