- My Ocean -
All my life I've lived by the ocean, safe and sound in a small, quiet bay. Hearing thundering surf in the distance, yet preferring the bay's tiny waves. In my boat I would blithely paddle around... in that bay for hours and hours. Yet catching a glimpse of the wondrous sea, transformed by its awesome power. Many times on the beach I would wander, and I'd stare at the sea mesmerized... as the beauty and grace that now drew me, burned its need in my wide, staring eyes. Still I paddled around in frustration, 'till that bay could no longer hold me. My desire for the ocean was o'erpowering, so I steered my small boat out to sea. Right away I felt the sea's power, as my boat bobbed and skipped frantically, in the endless, majestic whitecaps, and the freshening, offshore breeze. Into herself the sea slowly drew me, soft and gentle so I could not refuse. I, a helpless thrall to her allures, for her, my love swiftly grew. Her anger is great and terrible, as vast waves toss and swift currents race. But the wild storms are brief and soon after, glad reunion in her sweet embrace. In the depths of her love, I revel, grace and wisdom she freely gives. Confidence to gain, as I travel, more than ever, I've learned how to live. We've a horizon to explore together, stretching out to dawn's misty morn, from the golden-flecked path of a sunset, to far lands where our fond dreams are born.
