And Still God Resides Here

Sinewy chains of doubt coiled about my neck, wallowing in the sewage of our souls Getting caught up in the rapids of the horrors of humanity And still God is here- In each rock I dash myself upon, in every mouthful of puss I am choking on… She lies upon a pillow, heavily soiled, and covered with splotches of mascara Frail and pale- lost in the deadness of her eyes And still God resides here- Tangled within the filthy sheets and blankets, planted in the dirt under her fingernails… He calls his stockbroker for the third time today- The weight of 24 karat gold, expensive cologne, and Armani, hanging thickly upon him His stubby fingers, gorged with greed, caress a smileless mouth And still God resides here- In the white powder upon the briefcase in the bathroom, and the cold water he splashes on his face afterwards… The woman opens the second bottle of vodka and pours another glass, lifting it to bruised lips And still God resides here- In the darkness of the kitchen, and the crumpled cigarette packs on the floor She drags hard on another cigarette, lighting up a tear stained face, and the blood upon her brow… And yes, somehow, God still resides here

'smileless' is intentional
