Guardian Angel

Last night I had a dream. It left a tale to tell. I dreamt I saw an Angel, poor thing, he wasn't well. His body bruised and battered, his wings all ripped and torn. He could barely even walk.  He seemed so tired and worn. So I walked up and asked, "Heavenly Angel, how can this be?" He turned around, slowly pausing. Then spoke these words to me. "I am your Guardian Angel, no small task as you can see! You've been running amuck all your life, look what you've done to me! You say my wings are ripped and torn? A noble badge I proudly wear. For the times they've flown you, from evils unaware. You were so busy running wild, never heard the sound of breaking bone. As my arms tried to protect you,  while you thought you fought alone. And if I seem weak and pale, or a bit out of breath? That's because I breathed life into you, when that overdose caused your death!" I couldn't believe all I'd heard, or how much he seemed to care. So I wept upon his shoulder, with a peace beyond compare. The next morning, upon awakening, I thought, have I the courage to try? And in the distance, I thought I heard, a frail 'Guardian Angel' cry...        Copyright/66

Additional Notes:
I wrote this piece many, many years ago.andb ecause I received such moving responces from 'My Father's Child" I felt I would take another chance and submit one more revealing poem about my past and life, and let the critical chips fall where they may, so to speak! I hope someone can relate, either by their own experiences or someone that they have known themselves. I also hape you all enjoy it and it touches some inner part of your soul,'cuz that's where it came from. My inner soul!
