Rory O'Dell

This is the story of Rory O'Dell, He slipped off his feet, fell into a well, just fell on down, right onto his head, the whole town thought ol' Rory was dead. The search went on for days and days, through rain and fog and misty haze. The funeral was held with no body found, though some said they heard him in every sound. Rory just sat where his whisky was stashed, he wasn't dead just thoroughly smashed. When his whisky ran out, he climbed out of the well, and sneaked into town to avoid his wife Nell. The town folk who saw him said: "There's life after death", but, when he got close they could smell of his breath. Just where he had been now, no one could guess, so they all pressed him to up and confess. The innkeeper said: "just sit down O'Dell" "I'll bet you were out there and fell in the well. You weren't out there doing anything risky, you were just after you stash of old whisky." All settled down, Nell forgave him in time, and on whisky he never spent another dime. He changed his life, his mind now clear as a bell, still sometimes, just sometimes he still looks toward the well.
