Grief

Grief for what we have never possessed, Is a sadness unto itself. Like letting go of an empty jar,  Too long removed from life's shelf. Oh the weeping, the ranting, the raving;  Repeated to no end. A heart that was whole, now broken,   Sometimes does not want to mend. For some, it's a hard dreary burden,  Self imposed but a hardship at best. To haul this sadness through out each day, A martyr, a holy grail quest. When we are chained to a heartache, When those chains are covered in rust. Will we choose to lay down our burden? To know freedom, we need to, we must. For a heart that is battered and broken, That is never allowed to heal. Cannot know loves blessed power, Just a lifetime of heartaches appeal. So we wrap ourselves in it's blanket. Use our sadness to keep ourselves warm. And we think that we have recovered, But our hearts remain broken and torn. We live in the land of what could have been, The should have, the could have, the might. We loose sight of the present moment,  Remain locked in the darkness, the night. All it takes is simple surrender,  "Letting go", can restore our sight. Moving out of the darkness forever, To loves wonderful, healing light.
