Mirror

The lake, a fluid mirror, reflects back The glory of the sunset over Squam Crimson banners overhead refract To peach-pink dapples as the waters calm. The pines and birches whisper of the night The boughs bend softly, mourning the sun’s loss Now colors in the sky share muted light The waves are still, no longer lift and toss. Mixed voices of the vesper service raise To carry over lake, up to the sky A hymn of joyous gratitude and praise For all our lives, this place and times gone by. May we just like the lake, a mirror be Reflecting all the love God gives for free.
