Music Man

How upset would my Dad have been  had I stopped today? I only would have fed his monkey, listened as he played a tune. Instead I quickly  dropped my only coin, a mortal sin my mother would say, and ran home with a  mischevious grin firmly in place. On the way home from the office today I did a most peculiar thing.  I stopped and fed the music man's monkey. Closing my eyes the music gave way to fantasies that his carefree life was mine. What would my too obedient son  and simple content housewife think? I left a couple of coins in the chimp's cup and drifted home on a  secret smile all my own. I have seen him many times  and listened from afar.  Today the music brought me closer and closer  until I was right there.  Shoes off. Dancing with abandon. The neighbors were certain to talk. My much too serious son and husband could never understand. I left a handful of coins and  danced, barefoot, all the way home.
